Mr Golden Voice
Born in KwaMaphumulo, KwaZulu-Natal in 1990, Phiwayinkosi, known on stage as Mr Golden Voice, is one of South Africa’s most captivating vocal talents. Raised near Durban in the township of Verulam, his musical journey began early through school performances and his deep involvement in the Christ Embassy Verulam Church Choir, where his passion for singing flourished.
After matriculating from Verulam Secondary School, Phiwa pursued his love for music professionally at the Campus of Performing Arts in Durban. His breakout moment came in 2013 with a performance at the LoveWorld Music Ministry’s “In His Presence Concert”, followed by major appearances alongside Zakes Bantwini and Lira at Durban’s Women’s Day Celebration in 2014. That same year, he was featured on LoveWorld SAT’s “Vibe Junction” music show, showcasing his distinctive voice to a national audience.
In 2015, Phiwa performed at Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s Birthday Celebration in Nigeria, further cementing his place in the gospel and inspirational music scene. After moving to Cape Town, he continued to shine, performing at numerous events including the Indibano Concert with The Soil.
His powerful performances and signature tone earned him the name “Mr Golden Voice” during his standout run on Idols SA in 2016 — a title that perfectly captures his rich, soulful sound.
Beyond singing, Mr Golden Voice is a multi-talented MC, songwriter, and voice-over artist, with an impressive track record as a backing vocalist at the Crown Gospel Awards and two years performing with the award-winning Tshwane Gospel Choir.
With his unmatched vocal range, stage charisma, and cross-genre versatility, Mr Golden Voice is a rising star destined to stand among South Africa’s musical greats.
