His musical journey began in 1973 as the conga player in his first band, Funkmachine. A year later, after completing high school, he stepped into the spotlight as a vocalist in the folk duo Uwe and Waldi. Throughout the 1970s, Johnny expanded his musical horizons, performing with legendary acts such as Guru Guru and joining the jazz-rock ensemble Curryrise Orchestra at the Musicians’ Cooperative in Unna.
In 1985, he formed the folk duo Al & Rudy with Albert Buss, before founding his own project, Here Comes Johnny, in 1986, where he took the lead as frontman. From 1987 to 2017, Johnny toured Germany’s Baltic and North Sea resorts, bringing his signature blend of rock, blues, and folk to countless audiences.
A major chapter of his career was his long-standing collaboration with Mr. Don’t Ha Ha Casey Jones, performing as part of his backing group from 1987 to 2015. Between 1993 and 1995, Johnny played bass for the legendary band Los Bravos, appearing at major oldie festivals across Germany and featuring on national television with Thomas Gottschalk’s Let’s Have a Party.
His passion for music took him to Mallorca for several tours in the 1990s, including memorable performances in Cala Ratjada. In 2015, he shared the stage one final time with Casey Jones in Essen before the band dissolved during the 2020 pandemic.
In 2022, Johnny embarked on a new chapter, teaming up with exceptional guitarist Willi Mörschbach. The duo continues to perform successfully, captivating audiences with a dynamic mix of classic rock, blues, and heartfelt storytelling.
